Let me start off with saying that I LOVE LOVE LOVE to up cycle. What is up cycling you say? Simply taking something old or used and making it new in a creative way. The best projects for me involve sanding and a can of paint with a brush. In these next series of post I wanted to share some projects that I have done recently in our home. This project did use a paint brush as well as needle and thread. My talent abundant mother found an old quilt that had to amazing detail (all hand sewn) and beautiful colors to just throw away. She washed it and brought it to me, because we are two peas in a pod and LOVE the same decor style. And away we went creatively collaborating on what to turn the quilt into.
ONE FREE OLD QUILT turned into 2 cute projects!
DIY Arrow Throw Pillow
An Up cycling attitude is something that I believe has been lost. Generations before us have used and reused things in different ways to not be wasteful and because during time of depression there was no other choice. My grandparents are amazing examples of reusing and reusing things until they are no longer useful on any level. Old clothes patched too many times become rags, or have even gone towards making quilts. Milk jugs get reused to help pick raspberries, hold screws or used oil.
I could list example after example.
It seems only right to copy the frugal farm lifestyle and not to waste as I enjoy our new home decor style with this next piece.
Old Window Turned Showcase Frame
Old window from our wedding decor...no really! I just picked out a new paint color and cut the quilt to fit and tacked it into the missing main window pane for this easy up cycled piece that now is in our master bed room. Easy DIY Project!
